Hi everybody, i'm new of this forum and before introducing a new topic i want to say hi to all of you.

Now... i got problems with my CD changer, i've restored it couple of times but it always locks and now the only result i have from display, when i select cd source, is ERROR....

Have you ever had the same problem? How did you fix it? Can be substituted with a more modern one?
I've also asked for i-Pod connection, but the hi-fi man told me that i need to add a modulator (or something like that...) because the AUX-In is only for cassette player...
I really know nothing about car audio so cannot think about anything...i'd like also to know if is avaible (or was..) between optionals a phone and a freezer, accessories that i'd really like to have inside my baby...

Well...for today are enough question i guess.....i thank you again for the attention and hope in any help...

    Bye folks!

    Matteo,

The problems you have with the CD changer are very very common.

You can replace the CD changer with a boot mounted one from an Espace III but you will also need the connecting lead from the Espace to fit it.

You can also make your system work with an Ipod or other MP3 player by following these instructions:-

In case you weren't aware it seems to be caused by a dodgy micro-switch.

Luckily its right behind the top right hand side of the face of the unit. Applying pressure here while the disc is changing will usually sort it for a few changes each time.

I have a couple of Espace changers (different part numbers) and a lead that I bought when I was attempting to sort my changer if anyone would like to take them off my hands... However, instead I took it to a guy in Rushden (Car Audio Services) last summer who managed to repair the dash mounted changer - I believe others on this forum have now also had their units repaired.

    http://www.car-audio-services-ltd.co.uk/cas3/cashome.aspx

Tough to know if the repair will last, but it has seemed fine so far - I tend to listen to my iPod anyway...

thanks, i've seen the information about mounting ipod, but i'm really not able to do that...maybe can try to ask somebody better than me with cables and circuits...

i've seen a lot of cd changer for sale on the internet, by are all different from ours, have the same dimention and shape, but probably they won't match...and i'm really not able to modify the connections...
i've also asked in renault's assistance and they sent me to pioneer's one, that told me that they don't fix branded hi fi....so...nobody does it...in renault they said that when somebody comes during warranty with problems at the cd changer, they take it off and replace it directly. and a brand new one costs 400 Euro....in those moments i really hate the low quality of any components reanult was using!!!!
I love this car, but i'd love it more if could have a bmw's quality level!

My CD changer wouldn't load the CD's, I ran my fingers across all six buttons a few times, gave it a hefty tap and hey presto! I couldn't find this technique anywhere in the Renault maintenance manual!

i've tried everything, pushed everything....remains the violence against it...can't be worst than now....it doesn't load anything...just writes error...

I have a solution....... buy a good quality aftermarket single CD player /radio with a remote control ,and change the CD's yourself !!
Stick the remote on top of the steering column, just behind the steering wheel, and Voila.... almost as good as the original !!
Far cheaper and easier than installing a boot mounted CD changer !!!!
Just my humble opinion..... I've been very happy with mine for 2 years !

    you're rite,
but to see is not as good as an original one, the interior loses his style doing that...i'd like to avoid this option....
    thanks

If you want to keep the system exactly as original then the only real option is to have yours repaired as per Matthews suggestion above.

Second choice would be the boot mounted Espace changer, if you left the original in place this would be the next best thing.

The third option is to have somebody carry out the Ipod modification for you. This could be an addition to either of the above.

Fourth alternative is to fit an after market system, which, as you say would not be as nice to look at as the original.

Final option, listen to the radio only.
    :-)

If you go for a boot mounted one, the hole left by the multi-changer can be filled with an identical storage pocket to the one above the multi-changer. Costs around £5 from a dealer which I reckon is the cheapest bit of kit I've yet found for the Avantime.

The other solution to your situation is if you go to a car audio dealer and ask about a fm transmitter which when the ipod is connect will also display the track and album in the dash. very good bit of kit indeed. and very very reasonalbe. better and safer way than the modification for ipod aux . :)

I got the sat navi commands...so...
and i'm interested mantaining it...or, if it's not so complicated, to fit the espace's one in there and also to apply ipod connector, would be really great...i have ipod and iphone...non need cds....
however i'd like to have everything working in my car, also if i don't use it!
    :)
    thanks

You might be better off looking at a unit with a memory card reader / USB port instead of a multichanger! Assuming it will fit, that is.. I don't see any reason why a specialist couldn't fit a nice unit in there. Probably would not be able to use the dash though, don't know about the steering mounted controls.

On ebay.fr there was a cd changer up for sale 31 euro at the last look. Worth a punt?

If you mean the in-dash 6 cd changer, it's been bid up to 250 Euros, still with 7 days to go!
    Hope it works for that!

Should we be starting a new topic, on what spares, accessories we should all be looking out for ... ?

I bought one of these :-

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-Memory-Modulator-Supports-Control/dp/B000S2KG7C/ref=pd_cp_ce_1_img

Tune it in to a free FM channel and away you go. It sits in the lighter socket. You can use the volume control as per the Radio but you can't skip songs etc, unless you use the supplied remote. The number of songs only limited by the size SD card you use, but my 8GB card stores hours & hours. Probably about 30 albums worth.

For those who are not too sure how these work - they send out FM radio signals, so basically you choose a frequency on the unit to send out, tune your FM radio into the same frequency, and it acts like your own personal radio station playing the songs you have on the SD memory card. It outputs the sound through your speakers and you can control the volume via the car's built in volume controls.

If you search for "Harman Kardon" you might find what you're looking for.

The only problem with the FM senders is that any trip across the UK, especially up the M1 requires regular changes to the frequency it uses and then a retune of the radio as we have so many FM stations - particularly around Leeds and Sheffield!

The one we have is set to a low FM position so there is no interferance and works like a dream

I also bought a similar unit to stoobie....

Worked fine with my HTC phone streamin both calls and the address book via bluetooth from the phone then using FM to pass it on to the car radio. Or streaming music from the devices interal memory and/or memory card to the radio via FM.

Doesn't work with my new iPhone now though.

i will modify my radio to allow ipod/iphone to be connected...and about the cd changer...i've seen a lot on internet, also in italy, but i don't know if they can match with my avantime radio....do you think they will work or they need any adjustments?
i've probably found somebody that can work on my radio to modify it for the ipod connection...in that case i'll ask them also if they can adjust the new cd changer...if is possible...
