Bit of a wierd conversation with a fellow petrolhead ( Bmw fan... Yawn )....Any thoughts on the following......Have any Avis in GB been re-sprayed a different colour from standard apart from the Taylor cars ? ...and if doing so to showroom cond what would you go for ?.....and second ..thinking of blocking car for the winter and running old estate during winter...any thoughts or experiences of preserving during the salty roads etc............a drunken gas in pub last night and got me thinking about extending the cars life / a right good bit of TLC...blah blah you get the idea...replies on a postcard ! Interested if anyone has any thoughts esp on a change of colour or is that a sin ! Sc

Not seen this on here, and cribbed the link from another Forum!
Anyway, Series 1 Episode 6, which featured Jason Dawe rather than May.
The vid is in separate 10 minutes chunks, so when you get to the end of each it rolls over. There's a V-S in the first one and the Avi appears in the second one.

Avantime Wedding Car

I'm easily persuaded. The Avi decked with white ribbons drove from Wells to Street to pick up bride, off to Taunton for the ceremony, did grand air through Taunton in February, no complaints from the occupants. A fun day.

Just wonder, any other Avantimes been used as wedding cars.

I have recently been contacted by a company who have introduced me to their website which offers downloads of various automotive manuals. They requested that I place a link to their site so I agreed to do this if they supplied me a copy to evaluate.

I have not had time to fully check the information contained in the manual but at first glance it appears to be a very useful reference. In addition to standard style wiring diagrams, it shows clear diagrams of the physical positions of electrical components and the routing of the various wiring looms.

The information contained in the manual is a good supplement to the Dialogys manual and gives much more detail of electrical systems on the car.

At £4.99 for the download I consider this to be a worthwhile investment for any Avantime owner and can recommend it to all our members.

Hi...
Does anyone remember the madness I went through at Christmas in the snow trying to get the correct brake pads for my car?
Does anyone recall the hoo-haa I went through getting a breakdown recovery from the AA which culminated with a need for 2 new tyres and a wheel repair?

Well I finally got the Khumo tyres I wanted and took them, together with my refurbished wheel (see pictures) and the correct pads which I eventually got from my Renault West dealer to my mate's Formula 1 centre to have them all fitted.
I'd had the pads in the car since January just waiting for a reason to get them changed and the whole AA debacle was as good a time as any.

Well my new wheel and tyres look fabulous (I've just got to find £50 per corner to now make the other 3 look the same.
The brake pad......... yes you guessed right....... WRONG ONES!!!!!

Back to Renault tomorrow to try again. I'll be putting in a call to RCS first to see if I can make them fit them gratis because of the hassle (what do you think my chances are?)

Life.... a challenge we cannot win!

CD changer

Hi everybody, i'm new of this forum and before introducing a new topic i want to say hi to all of you.

Now... i got problems with my CD changer, i've restored it couple of times but it always locks and now the only result i have from display, when i select cd source, is ERROR....

Have you ever had the same problem? How did you fix it? Can be substituted with a more modern one?
I've also asked for i-Pod connection, but the hi-fi man told me that i need to add a modulator (or something like that...) because the AUX-In is only for cassette player...
I really know nothing about car audio so cannot think about anything...i'd like also to know if is avaible (or was..) between optionals a phone and a freezer, accessories that i'd really like to have inside my baby...

Well...for today are enough question i guess.....i thank you again for the attention and hope in any help...

I first saw an Avantime at a motor show in Belfast in 2002 and was well impressed but at 28k was out of my range.Over the next 6 years I can only remember seeing 2 on the roads.About a week ago I saw one for sale in Belfast and agreed right away to buy it.I picked it up this morning and am really delighted with it.Its a 3.0 petrol auto Privilage,purple(open to correction)with silver roof.Looking forward to learning more about my new hobby from the group.

Sat Nav Display

I assume all sat navs are the same for the Avantime. When I start the car, and the Sat nav screen comes on there is a nice Renault logo. This then dis-appears to show a warning sign to obey the highway code or something similar.
I find I put the map on just to get rid of the warning sign which gets derisory comments from passengers.
Is there a way of getting the Renault logo to remain as the default screen, or indeed can an alternative default be created ??

Took my girlfriend from Bedford to Luton airport this morning down the A6 at breakneck speeds to catch an 8am flight.
I decided to return home on the M1 and see how high i could get my mpg level to. I reset it leaving the airport and, after a mile tailback, joined the motorway. I drafted a Miller lite lorry all the way to Junc 13 at 54 mph (OH, THAT WAS BORING) followed by an uneventful run in on the A421... the result was a truly amazing 36.5 mpg average with a peak at 37.6 mpg... this from a V6. I was gobsmacked....

Anyone ever get a higher reading than those?

Daft I know but what else do you do when your girlfriend goes away for 2 weeks???

Only started this thread for fun really, but actually thought it was a good idea to find out what condition our Avys are in around the country.

Mine has : almost 70k on clock
daily use - of course!
paintwork - very good
engine/mechanical - everything works!
modifications - LPG; aftermarket stereo; SS exhaust
last big spend - 4 tyres £320
any faults (optional) - very slight bubbling on alloys and roof trim

Radio Code Unlocking

I have today finally managed to get my radio working in another of my cars. not an Avantime but so impressed was I by the help I received from Davidson Electronics I had to post a message. The radio was locked after ten attempts at the wrong code and Graeme spent a disproportionate amount of time with no promise of remuneration researching how to unlock it.

I don't normally allow blatant advertising on this site, however, if anybody needs a radio unlock code or similar please do me the personal favour of using http://www.davidsonelectronics.co.uk

Hi there,

I was wondering if you could tell me if you have any members up in the Aberdeenshire direction. I need to buy a second car any time before July 09 and would like something special, originally thought about a Clio Williams but the quality of whats out there for the money is pretty poor. Before buying i would have liked to see what its like to get my kids in and out of the back of an Avantime and just how big the boot really is (big enough for a pram) and if there was any one local that could let me see their car that would be great (or selling one). I have not seen any locally and the nearest one for sale to me is 150 miles away. I worked as a mechanic in a Renault dealership for over 15 years before changing my career and never got the chance to work on one but did get a test drive of a rival dealership's one. I've owned Renault's for over 13 years and very passionate about the manufacturer.

Removing Windscreen Wipers

I want to clean out the drainage channel at the bottom of the windscreen under the plastic cover. I have taken the retaining bolts off but the wipers remain in place. I don't want to force them and can't see if there is anything else I need to loosen in order to remove or whether they are slightly corroded into place.

Any advice would be useful indeed.

Vehicle Excise Duty

Am I right in thinking that the new Vehicle Excise Duty that will be applied to the 3.0ltr Avantime will be £215 pa from april 2009 and £245 pa from April 2010 (£235 for LPG)

Previous to the recent pre-budget report it was to be £410 pa from April 2010

If I've read that right then things are not that bad for us, it's just cars sold after 23 March 2006 that will be hit hard.

What I don't know about my Avantime

When I bought my Avantime I got nothing with it, except the service book stamped relatively well up-to-date. Since then I've been trying to buy some bits and pieces on eBay etc. and yesterday received a price guide and sales type book that I won for a few £s. In the sales book it shows the central dash at the satnav screen opening upwards to reveal a "handy coin holder" Does the dash really open up like this, and if so, how do I persuade mine to do so?

I really wish I'd held off a few months to get my Avantime as I reckon I paid over the odds a little, and with no paperwork or anything of substance I was a little disappointed. However the car itself has been great and has proved more versatile than expected when moving bits of furniture across Scotland!
